He was found guilty of first-degree murder and deadly weapon with intent to injure in the 2018 stabbing death of his wife, Jacquelyn Smith.
A judge on Monday ordered Smith to be held without bail. He's facing first-degree murder charges.
This comes as lawmakers return to Annapolis for a special session to redraw the state's congressional map.
