In a major victory for gay rights advocates as well as President Obama, the Senate today voted to repeal the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy banning gay men and women from serving openly in the military.
Washington — In a weekend of last-minute voting ahead of the holidays, the Senate is expected to vote Saturday to end debate on the historic “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal, another step toward the passage of the contentious legislation.
The Senate has enough votes to pass a standalone repeal of the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) has been told by Senate counterparts, he said in an interview with HuffPost Wednesday evening after the House approved its own version of the bill.
