A synthetic marijuana drug known a K2 landed 33 people in the hospital in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.

During Friday's edition on NewsOne Now, Jerrold Winter, Ph.D, Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of New York at Buffalo spoke with Roland Martin about pain management, opioid dependence and the true meaning of addition.

The source, who is unnamed, said it is not clear if the opioid "caused or contributed to the musician's death."

Attorney William Mauzy confirmed that Dr. Howard Kornfeld, a California-based specialist and a national authority on opioid addiction treatment, was contacted by representatives for the entertainer who said Prince "was dealing with a grave medical emergency." Mauzy works with the Kornfeld family.

The singer, who died April 21, began requesting foods that were easier to digest, chef Ray Roberts told the AP. He was also fighting off "waves of sore throats and frequent upset stomachs."
