Idaho Medical Center CEO Found Dead in Baltimore Hotel; Family Suspects Foul Play

The CEO of a major Idaho medical center was found dead in a Baltimore hotel earlier this month, police confirmed.
Baltimore Police responded to a call for a suspected overdose around 2:04 p.m. on June 6 in the 700 block of Aliceanna Street. When officers arrived, they discovered 46-year-old Nicholas Manning unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the medical examiner’s office, where the official cause of death is still pending. The examiner’s office has not yet released further details.
Manning served as CEO of West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell, Idaho. The hospital confirmed his death and honored his legacy in a public statement.
“Nick was a dedicated and mission-driven leader who loved connecting people to our shared purpose,” a hospital spokesperson said. Manning had a 17-year career in healthcare, including 14 years with HCA Healthcare. Evan Ray, president of HCA Healthcare’s Mountain Division, added: “Throughout his career, Nick was a thoughtful and inspirational leader. He will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives and careers he touched.”
Manning’s family released a separate statement, expressing doubt about the circumstances surrounding his death. They believe he was the victim of fraud and homicide—allegations that Baltimore Police have not substantiated. Authorities say the investigation remains active.
The family also publicly disagreed with the police department’s initial characterization of the incident.
“We strongly object to the statement issued by the Baltimore Police Department,” the family said. “We are committed to pursuing every legal and investigative avenue to uncover the truth. Nick deserves dignity, transparency, and—above all—justice.”
