Although African-Americans make up just 13 percent of the U.S. population, we account for 33 percent of the missing in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s database. Cases involving African-Americans also tend to receive less media coverage than missing Whites, with missing men of color getting even less attention.

NewsOne has partnered with the Black and Missing Foundation to focus on the crisis of missing African-Americans.

To be a part of the solution, NewsOne will profile missing persons and provide tips about how to keep your loved ones safe and what to do if someone goes missing.

Circumstances of Disappearance: According to police, Jesse exited his home through his bedroom window. Neighbors and his mother reported that he would often slip out of his house for walks, but has never stayed out for an extended period.

“No one is mad at you,” Jesse’s mother Crystal Wilson said last month, The Arizona Republic reported. “I just miss your loving, caring, sweet ways.”

Jesse’s school, the Bradley Academy of Excellence in Goodyear, has become a resource for the boy’s family as the search continues. They’ve lined the route from his house to the school with yellow ribbons and have decorated the front of the school.

“Jesse, we are looking for you, to you, to return home to us. We love you,” said Belinda Knox, the family service director at Jesse’s school. “But Jessie, we just want you to come home, baby.”

His mother has described him as a sweet boy who was well-known at his school. At home, Jesse had a dog that he really wanted and it was his responsibility to feed his pet.

Police have conducted extensive searches of the area and a nearby park with the help of volunteers. So many volunteers came out over the course of two days under extremely hot weather conditions, that an area that would have taken police a week to search by themselves was covered.

“We are still out there looking for Jesse and have not stopped,” Sgt. Jason Weeks told NewsOne.

Police are continuing the search over areas of rough terrain via the air and are asking for area residents to be alert to any sightings and to share Jesse’s photo over social media.

The FBI is also involved in the investigation. Weeks said foul play has not been ruled out as of yet.

Last Seen Wearing: Jesse was last seen wearing a red shirt, shorts, and black socks.
