2013 was a banner year for black movies, television and music. For example, films like “12 Years a Slave,” “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” and “Fruitvale Station,” excited audiences and critics alike. On February 22, the 45th NAACP Image Awards will celebrate the accomplishments of those films and more. The Image Awards will honor the contributions of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film and also honors individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors.

The two-hour special will air live on TV One at 9:00 p.m. ET. Image Award nominees were announced, however, in January. The NAACP solicits submissions for more than 50 categories.
