The Maryland Senate has approved a package of budget measures to increase income taxes on people who make more than $100,000 a year and to split teacher pension costs with local governments over four years.

The Senate on Tuesday also passed a tax increase on tobacco products other than cigarettes as part of the package. The measures now go to the House.
