Against the backdrop of a bitterly divided Congress and an angry and frustrated electorate, the most expensive midterm election in history finally comes to a climax Tuesday as America votes on 37 Senate seats and all 435 seats in the House of Representatives.

With a brown Bible in hand, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Kendrick Meek set out Sunday morning to attract last-minute support in some of Miami-Dade and Broward County’s largest black churches.

Democrat Jerry Brown has an 11-point lead — 48 to 37 percent — over Republican Meg Whitman in California’s gubernatorial race, according to a SurveyUSA poll.

Republican Marco Rubio has a 17-point lead — 48 percent to 31 percent — over independent Charlie Crist in the Florida Senate race, according to a poll from Sunshine State News/Voter Survey Service. Democrat Kendrick Meek is in third with 20 percent.
