Parking rates in some of the city’s most popular neighborhoods are set to double as part of an effort to close Baltimore’s $121 million budget gap.

The neighborhoods to be affected by the hike include Mount Vernon, Harbor East, Federal Hill, Fells Point and downtown as soon as the changes can be implemented. Surrounding cities that have also seen hikes are Philadelphia, New York and Washington.

The higher rates are projected to bring in $3.1 million in revenue. City Council members are not ruling out raising rates in other neighborhoods for additional funds.
