Cedric Mullins Traded To Mets, Marking End Of An Era In Baltimore

The New York Mets have acquired Cedric Mullins from the Baltimore Orioles, according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo. The trade, not yet officially announced by either team, brings the Mets much-needed depth in center field as the Trade Deadline approaches.
Mullins will join a New York outfield that already includes Jeff McNeil and Tyrone Taylor, giving manager Carlos Mendoza flexible options defensively and offensively.
In exchange, the Orioles will receive three right-handed pitching prospects: Anthony Nunez (ranked No. 14 in the Mets’ system by MLB Pipeline), Raimon Gomez (No. 30), and unranked hurler Chandler Marsh.
The deal marks a significant shift for Baltimore. Mullins, 30, had become one of the most recognizable and respected figures in the Orioles’ clubhouse. He was the team’s longest-tenured player and a bridge from the pre-rebuild era, having debuted before GM Mike Elias took over in 2018.
A quiet leader, Mullins let his performance do the talking. His standout season came in 2021 when he earned AL All-Star and Silver Slugger honors. That year, he slashed .291 with 37 doubles, five triples, 30 home runs, 59 RBIs, 30 stolen bases and an .878 OPS across 159 games — becoming the only player in Orioles history to record a 30-30 season.
While his recent seasons haven’t matched those eye-popping numbers, Mullins remains a potent threat at the plate and a reliable glove in center. His speed and occasional power make him a valuable late-season pickup for the Mets, especially as they aim to strengthen their postseason push.
A 13th-round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft out of Campbell University, Mullins has spent his entire eight-year career with the Orioles. He is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2025 season, making this a critical stretch for both Mullins and his new team.
