Black Bear Spotted In Baltimore County Safely Captured

A black bear spotted in both Baltimore and Howard counties has been safely captured by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
According to DNR spokesperson Gregg Bortz, the bear was last seen Monday in a densely populated area of Langley Park, near the border of Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.
The animal had climbed a tree, attracting a crowd of curious onlookers. Wildlife officials from the DNR’s Wildlife and Heritage Service used a tranquilizer dart to safely sedate the bear.
Once the bear descended from the tree, staff carefully secured it and fitted it with a tracking collar. The collar will help monitor the bear as part of an ongoing population study in collaboration with the University of Maryland.
The bear has since been relocated to a protected green space at an undisclosed location.
