Officials Investigate Fatal Police Shooting In Baltimore County

Authorities are investigating after a Baltimore County police officer fatally shot a man in Dundalk on Sunday evening.
Officers were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. to the 8200 block of North Boundary Road following reports of a person “experiencing a mental health episode,” according to a police news release.
When officers arrived, they encountered the man, who they said was armed, behind a residence. Police say the situation escalated, prompting one officer to open fire and strike the man.
The individual was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A firearm was recovered at the scene, police said.
At a press conference later that evening, Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough confirmed that two officers were involved in the encounter.
“We understand that in these types of incidents, even the person involved has family and loved ones, and we empathize with them,” McCullough said, according to WJZ. “This was a very isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.”
Authorities have not released the identities of the man or the officers involved.
The incident is now under investigation by the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, which reviews all police-involved deaths in the state.
Officials said a police presence would remain in the area during the investigation, but reiterated there is no threat to public safety.
This marks the fifth police-involved shooting in Baltimore County so far in 2025, McCullough noted.
Just last week, county police shot a knife-wielding man in Essex. In April, officers fatally shot a man armed with a bow and arrow in Arbutus. Earlier this year, an armed individual—later identified as a local teacher—was shot after firing at officers outside the Wilkens Police Precinct.
Neighbors expressed shock over Sunday’s events.
“This area is usually pretty quiet,” said local resident Russell Hayes. “The neighbors get along, and we don’t usually have crime.”
