As spring emerges in Baltimore, so do the delicate pink and white cherry blossoms, marking one of the most picturesque times of the year.

Typically, cherry blossoms in Baltimore reach their peak bloom between late March and early April. While Washington, D.C.’s Tidal Basin often leads the bloom cycle, Baltimore’s blossoms tend to follow just a few days later.

Since peak bloom is a fleeting phenomenon, lasting only a short window of time, it’s essential to plan visits accordingly. The National Park Service defines peak bloom as the point when approximately 70% of the blossoms on cherry trees have opened.

Weather conditions play a crucial role in determining the timing of peak bloom. Warmer winters often result in an earlier bloom. For instance, in 2023, higher-than-average temperatures from mid-January through winter led to an early bloom by about two weeks. Conversely, cooler temperatures can delay the process. Once in full bloom, factors like wind, heavy rain, or unseasonably warm temperatures can shorten the peak bloom period.

Baltimore’s cherry blossoms are projected to reach peak bloom between Monday, March 31, and Wednesday, April 2, according to NPS estimates.
