Following online threats and a number of racially charged vandalism incidents at the University of Missouri, officials at Howard University are boosting security on their D.C. campus after also receiving threats targeting Black students.

The historically Black university confirmed the threat was detected, but did not elaborate on the specific message, NBC Washington reports. A letter posted to the anonymous website 4Chan and widely shared by many on social media is said to be the culprit.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, President Wayne A. I. Frederick said the university is working with campus, local, and federal law enforcement to investigate.

Although the threat’s authenticity has yet to be confirmed, professors are not penalizing students for avoiding classes. On Thursday, officials at Mizzou rejected the resignation of a professor who shamed students concerned about attending class in the wake of a number of online threats.

The university has urged students to call D.C. police or the school’s Department of Public Safety if they see anything suspicious.
