How things have changed in a matter of days.

While many knew that President Obama showing his birth certificate wouldn’t raise his poll numbers, when the announcement came of him ordering the capture and eventual killing of terrorist Osama Bin Laden, many expected a rise in the polls.

In our BlackPlanet/NewsOne poll conducted yesterday, close to 51 percent of Black Americans thought this would help Obama get re-elected. In a general CBS/NYTimes poll, Obama’s approval rating rose an amazing 11 percent from 46 to 57 percent.

At the same time, in similar results to the BP/NO poll, many Americans thought this would bring more terrorist attack attempts.

More than six in 10 Americans said that killing Bin Laden was likely to increase the threat of terrorism against the United States in the short term. A large majority also said that the Qaeda leader’s death did not make them feel any safer. Just 16 percent said they personally felt more safe now. Close to 41 percent of Black Americans thought it would make the country less safe.
