Due to a forecast of dangerously high temperatures, residential evictions in Baltimore will be suspended from Sunday, June 22 through Friday, June 26.

The pause comes in accordance with a Maryland state law that took effect in October 2024. The law mandates that residential evictions be postponed when an excessive heat warning is issued by the National Weather Service (NWS).

According to the Baltimore City Sheriff’s Office, “Most eviction services must be postponed when extreme weather conditions occur.”

The NWS issues an excessive heat warning when the Heat Index is expected to reach 105°F or higher for at least two consecutive days, and overnight temperatures remain above 75°F.

If you’re a property owner or manager with an eviction scheduled this week, you can check for updates, call 410-396-7412, or email evictions@baltimorecitysheriff.gov with case-specific questions.

Residents seeking relief from the heat — including cooling centers and public health guidance — can find resources via the Baltimore City Health Department’s Code Red Extreme Heat Alert page at health.baltimorecity.gov/coderedinfo

Stay safe, stay cool, and check on neighbors who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.
