Two people are dead following a police chase involving a Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) officer early Wednesday morning in Baltimore, according to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General.

The incident began around 2:18 a.m. when an MDTA officer attempted to stop a vehicle that exited I-95 onto Key Highway. Instead of pulling over, the driver of a silver Infiniti fled, prompting a high-speed pursuit.

The chase ended tragically when the driver lost control and slammed into a support pillar beneath Interstate 95. Both the driver and a passenger in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the pursuit.

MDTA police are responsible for patrolling key transportation infrastructure, including highways, tunnels, and bridges in the Baltimore area, as well as BWI Airport and the Port of Baltimore.

The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is now investigating the fatal crash. The officer’s dashboard camera was active during the incident, the AG’s office confirmed.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the IID at 410-576-7070 or email IID@oag.state.md.us.
