Truck Crashes Into Baltimore Rowhouse, Collapsing Building

A pickup truck crashed into a vacant rowhouse in East Baltimore Monday night, causing the building to collapse onto the vehicle and leaving a pile of rubble behind.

Emergency crews responded around 8:30 p.m. to the intersection of Federal Street and North Patterson Park Avenue, according to Baltimore City Fire Department spokesperson John Marsh. Authorities say the rowhouse fell on top of the truck following the impact.

The 64-year-old driver was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said he told officers that another vehicle ran him off the road, causing him to lose control. There was no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Neighbors described the chaotic aftermath.

“I was surprised when I saw the truck already inside the house,” said Sofia Funez, who owns the rowhome next door. “Everything was closed off, and the news and police were already there.”

Witness Brian Powers recalled hearing a loud crash before running outside. “The truck was in the building, and it had collapsed on top of it. Someone helped the driver out of the car.”

Funez said she is not allowed to reenter her home until officials assess the structural integrity of the shared wall. She had been renovating the property and expressed concern over the setback.

“We’ve already invested a lot into that house. It’s heartbreaking,” she said.

The rowhouse that collapsed did not have residents, but it was used as a beauty salon. Funez expressed sympathy for the business owner, saying, “It destroyed everything.”

Despite the destruction, neighbors were grateful that no one was seriously hurt. “That’s a lot of weight that came down on him,” Powers said. “He’s lucky to be alive.”

Police confirmed no charges will be filed against the driver.
