A Pikesville woman realized something was off when her steak bowl had a “soapy” taste.

As she continued eating, she recalled that the Chipotle where she had picked up her meal appeared unclean. Concerned, she stopped eating and threw the food away—but the damage had already been done.

Within hours, she began experiencing stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

According to a lawsuit filed this month in Baltimore County Circuit Court, she was hospitalized for four days with an inflamed small intestine and was unable to eat during her stay.

The woman said she had visited the Chipotle at 7091 Security Blvd. in Woodlawn in May 2022, ordering a steak bowl with rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream.

She is seeking $74,000 in damages. A Chipotle spokesperson stated that the company does not comment on ongoing legal matters.

In 2020, Chipotle agreed to pay a $25 million fine to settle criminal charges related to serving contaminated food that sickened more than 1,100 people across the U.S. between 2015 and 2018.
