The Maryland House of Delegates will vote Friday on whether or not to override Gov. Larry Hogan’s veto of a bill that lets local school boards decide whether school begins before or after Labor Day.

The Senate overrode the Republican governor’s veto on Thursday 32-15.

The House needs 85 votes to override the veto.

Supporters of the governor say the longer summer breaks give families more time together and help tourism; but critics say it shortchanges education, and jurisdictions can have different scheduling needs.
