Black Music Month originated in 1979. Jimmy Carter proclaimed the month of June as Black Music Month to celebrate the wonderful music, the  achievements, births, important timelines, events and to remember those we lost.

Via: Associated Press Today Lena Horne was honored by family and friends at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in New York. Attendees included family members as well as famous industry friends. Horne leaves behind a son and a daughter. She died May 9, 2010 at the age of 92.
