~Born in Owensboro, Kentucky.

~Joined Ebony Magazine as staff photographer.

~Photographed Kwame Nkrumah at the moment of Ghana’s independence.

~Gained an Overseas Press Club Citation in 1957.

~He received numerous awards including the National Urban League in 1969,  and the National Association of Black Journalists in 1978.

~Won a Pulitzer Prize in 1969 for the photograph of Coretta Scott King and her daughter,Bernice ,at Dr King’s Funeral
