City of Baltimore and efforts to protect taxpayer dollars from covering the cost of corruption by a group of former Baltimore Police officers. City Solicitor Andre Davis said,, “We contend they were not acting within the scope of their employment.”

If Davis can get that agreed to in a court of law, taxpayers would be off the hook to cover the damages a jury might award a victim.

Defense attorney A. Dwight Pettit has successfully sued the City of Baltimore. Pettit calls the argument Davis is attempting to make “ridiculous”.

Pettit says, “What they were doing was illegal, but that does not take it out of their scope of employment If you’re saying they’re not working in the scope of authority, then everything they do that is bad as officers would never be compensated.”
