According to FBI crime stats, Baltimore has the worst homicide rate among the nation’s big cities.
There were 342 murders in Baltimore last year, 56 per 100,000 people. The highest rate of any American city with more than 500,000 people.
Detroit was next, with 40 homicides per 100,000 people, then by Memphis, Tenn. (28 per 100,000), Chicago (24 per 100,000) and Philadelphia (20 per 100,000).
