Summer just got a whole lot better.

Altrichia Cook, 28, like so many before her, lived the words of the popular proverb: Necessity is the mother of invention.

In this case, Cook needed fashionable swimwear to cover some pregnancy scars, and so she made one.

The former teen mom said that two years ago, she was on the hunt for a well-made and fashionable high-waist bikini that would hide the scarring related to her now 9-year-old son’s birth, BuzzFeed writes. And instead of waiting for that suit to hit the stores, she fashioned one, posted the image online, and Allusions by A. Lekay was born.

The Lakeland, Florida designer sincerely wanted to know why women with post-baby bodies – some of whom even bear literal scars from such – have to be out of the two-piece swim game. Curvy girl? Check. Need scars covered? Check. Fashionistas? Check.

“As I have grown, I get so many thank-you emails of women thanking me,” the mom and entrepreneur, who goes by A. Lekay, told Buzzfeed. “One instance, a customer told me that she hadn’t worn a two-piece swimsuit in over 20 years.”

And because high-waisted bikinis are wildly en vogue, A. Lekay fits right into this current fashion moment. Pop-tress Nicki Minaj even sports an A. Lekay stars and stripes-inspired bikini from her Rockstar collection on the cover of July’s Cosmopolitan.
