Charles County has sworn in its first African-American sheriff in the sheriff’s office’s 356-year history.Established in 1658, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office says it’s one of the oldest, full-service law enforcement agencies in the U.S.

Sheriff-elect Troy Berry was sworn in at a Tuesday morning ceremony and will lead more than 600 police, corrections and civilian personnel.
