Baltimore’s own Sheri Booker, author of Nine Years Under: Coming of Age in an Inner City Funeral Home, won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work. Booker, a teacher at Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women and a graduate of both Notre Dame of Maryland University and Goucher College, was honored by simply being nominated alongside Oprah Winfrey and Maya Angelou.
“I wanted to bring this award back home to Baltimore, and I’m so happy I get to do that,” she said.
Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake even tweeted Booker to congratulate her on her big win.
Job well done Sheri. This is only the beginning of a phenomenal career. We look forward to more outstanding literary works from you Ms. Booker.
