Newark – Layoffs in Newark have not only forced cops to look for jobs they never thought of taking, but it has also forced many Newark neighborhoods to fend for themselves.

“We’re facing, literally, the worst economy of our lifetimes,” Booker said in an interview with HuffPost. “It came to a point where we couldn’t cut enough to make up for the tremendous budgetary shortfall.

When the city decided to cut many of it’s officers, it also lost many of it’s best crime-prevention programs. One of those programs was Operation Impact which decreased crime in high danger areas by more than 35 percent.
