Police have identified the body of a woman found hanging from a tree early Saturday morning on east Myrtle Street and are trying to locate her family and anyone else who might know her.

The body was spotted by a motorist about 6:30 a.m., the authorities said.

Chief of Police Dickie Sistrunk said the woman’s driver’s license with photo identification was found inside her abandoned vehicle in the parking lot of Eastgate Plaza.

Her name was being withheld pending notification of family, Sistrunk said.

“She is from Colorado, according to her driver’s license,” he said. “We have not been able to find anyone here that knows her.”
