John Lawson ( December 27, 1674- September 16, 1711), explorer, surveyor, and author of A New Voyage to Carolina (London, 1709), was apparently the only son of Dr. John Lawson (1632-ca. 1690) and his wife [Isabella] Love (ca. 1643-ca. 1680).
Black gunman,John Lawson,& landsman,William Brown,who fought on the flagship USS Hartford,both won the Congressional Medal of Honor for courage in the Battle of Mobile Bay on this date in 1864.
