WASHINGTON — When chunks of plaster began falling from the ceiling of the national cathedral of African Methodism last year, one of Washington’s oldest black congregations nearly had to abandon its sanctuary.

The famed Apollo Theater unveiled a boulevard of stars along W. 125th St. Monday – featuring musical icons like James Brown and Patti LaBelle.The seven superstars who debuted on the walk all have a home in the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame, including Ella Fitzgerald, Quincy Jones, Gladys Knight and the Pips and Little Richard.
