Did You Know… Augustus Tolton

(April 1, 1854 – July 9, 1897)

Augustus Tolton,

was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in Rome and then assigned to America on

April 24, 1886. Tolton is considered by some to be the first Black Priest since both

James and Patrick Healy had a white father and mulatto mother.
